A Night Out in Breckenridge, Colorado
If you're looking for a new place to escape, Breckenridge, Colorado, is an obvious choice. Whether your vacation plans call for snow or sunshine, Breckenridge is a popular town not only for outdoor enthusiasts, but also for those who want to just get away to the quiet charm of a quaint Colorado mountain town. No matter if recreation or relaxation is your top priority, an evening out should likely be near the top of your "to do" list. And, in Breckenridge, the options are as endless as they are eclectic. Here are a few ideas to keep you entertained in the evening hours.
- It's Showtime. In its 34th season, the Backstage Theatre continues to present award-winning live theatre to the town of Breckenridge. With summer productions of Easy Living, Two Dumb Dogs, Guys on Ice, and The Wizard of Oz, you're sure to be in for a treat as you sit back, relax, and become a part of community theatre. Housed at the Breckenridge Theatre on South Ridge Street, the Backstage Theatre typically stages seven to nine plays throughout the summer and winter months. With such a strong presence and community support, the Backstage Theatre makes for a popular night out in Breckenridge, so reservations are strongly suggested.
- Dining Out. There is certainly not one thing wrong with planning a trip to Breckenridge around food! Whether your taste buds are calling for Italian, American, French, Mexican, or any other culinary treat, Breckenridge is sure to have an accommodation just right for you. And, if you're up for a piece of history, you can find it along with a bite to eat at The Dredge Boathouse, a two million pound floating restaurant that serves as a replica of one of Summit County's historical nine dredges that were in operation in the early 1900s. End any evening out with a trip to a local ice cream shop or a drink at a nearby pub, and you're sure to go home happy and content.
- Blues and Brews. While it's never hard to find a watering hole in most mountain towns, Breckenridge takes its bar scene to a whole different level. With more than 130 bars and eateries in the town, Breckenridge takes the term après ski, French for "after ski," seriously, not only in the ski season, but throughout the entire year. While you might be up for a drink or two at just one local establishment, you could even plan your entire evening around a tour (or pub crawl) of the bars of Breckenridge. Beginning at the Breckenridge Brewery and Pub is certainly a necessity if you're a beer lover and want to sample some local micro-brews. After an Avalanche Ale, you'll find a trip to Downstairs at Eric's a good choice if you want to keep the beer flowing. Boasting more than 20 beers on tap (120 beers total), you're sure to find a tasty beverage here. After you've sipped down a few cold ones, you might be loosened up for live music. The Salt Creek Restaurant and Saloon is a good choice, as is the local's favorite, Sherpa & Yeti's, both featuring local and national acts. However, if you're in the mood for a more upscale option, you might try The Cellar, a slick wine and tapas bar. Or, at the other end of the spectrum, try out the rustic Gold Pan, said to be the longest continually operating bar west of the Mississippi. A word of caution, however: you'll find that alcohol will affect you faster than normal because of the high altitude and thin air in Breckenridge. Before you head out for the night, designate a sober driver, plan to call or cab, utilize the bus system, or plan to only visit the bars within walking distance of your Breckenridge rentals.
Breckenridge truly is unique in its ability to blend a laid-back mountain mentality with the variety and spice of a perfect evening out. So, whether you're in the mood to check out the local theatre, delight your taste buds, or hit the bars, Breckenridge won't let you down.

Sounds like a fun place to visit. I would love to check out the Brewery and try some local beers!
Very good info on the area. Thanks for sharing. Didn't realize there were other things to do in Colorado than ski.
It's nice to see how much you enjoy your town. Enjoying the good things in life is what life is all about. Breckenridge sounds like a palce where you can enjoy a show and a great meal.

I love visiting new restaurants. Give me some Carrabbas any day of the week, but when I'm vacationing I like to go to places that I wouldn't be able to visit otherwise. The Dredge Boathouse sounds like a place that I would like to visit.
I don't drink anymore, but it's interesting to know that alcohol would affect someone differently there because of the altitude. We don't have that problem here in Florida.
